Policies & Procedures

Drop off/Pick Up

Children may arrive at the center at 7:00 a.m. Voluntary pre-kindergarten program participants may arrive at the center at 9:00 a.m. Please sign your child in on the class roster by signing your name and the time. Rosters are on the clipboards in the classrooms.

Children MUST be picked up by 6:00 p.m.   Voluntary pre-kindergarten participants MUST be picked up by 12:00 p.m.  If you know you are going to be detained please notify the school immediately.  We realized that no parent is intentionally late, however we are not able to judge the merit of lateness and for this reason we must enforce a late fee charge.  LATE FEES OF $1.00 PER MINTUE WILL BE CHARGED.  The fee is to be paid to the teacher or caregiver caring for your child.  Consistent or refusal to play late charges will be cause for dismissal.

Behavior Management

Children are encouraged to work through decision-making and conflicts in a positive manner.  Classroom rules are discussed at the beginning of the school year and children are asked to help write these rules.  The rules are posted and children are expected to follow these rules in the center.

As part of our licensing requirements we must have a signed record that you have read our discipline procedure.  This procedure is stated on our enrollment form, which you signed when your child was enrolled.  “Time-out” is used to give the child a few minutes to think about his actions before rejoining the other children.  Our goal is to help the child gain self-control through learning appropriate behavior.  “Time-out” is used as a last resort; redirection of activities will be used first.

Parents are consulted when necessary and clear communication between the director, teacher and parent is encouraged. Conferences are arranged on an “as needed” basis.  Please limit your visits with teachers during school hours.  It is best to request a conference.  It is difficult for the teacher to be attentive to your needs as well as the class at the same time.

The YMCA Child Care Center will refer parents to community agencies when a special need becomes apparent.  We will work in conjunction with parents, child and agency to aid the child’s progress.

Registration Policies and Procedure

We encourage parents who are interested in the child care programs to come in personally and visit the center where they are interested in enrolling their child.  Online registration is not available at this time.

Waiting List Policy

We maintain a waitlist for all ages at all times. Our program runs year round and we encourage parents to put their child on the waitlist as early as possible.

First Aid/Emergency/Medication Policies

Children should never come to school when they are sick.  For safety reasons, our center and our staff will not dispense medication to any child.   If a child becomes ill or is injured at the center a parent will be notified.
