  • YMCA Hometown Partner Program
  • Special Events

The South County Family YMCA is a non-profit 501 C3 charitable organization. We rely on charitable giving from individuals, businesses, and foundations to meet the evergrowing needs of local children, families, and individuals, and ensure we can continue to never turn anyone away from the YMCA for inability to pay.

The association operates two branches, the Warren Loranger Englewood YMCA and the Michael & Georgia Miller Venice YMCA. Contributions may be directed to a specific branch or program.

For information on how you can help, please call Julia Steele, Director of Development at (941)-492-9622 ext. 148 or email jsteele@veniceymca.org

The YMCA loves the Sunshine Quilt Guild of Englewood!!!

The ladies of the Sunshine Quilt Guild of Englewood are shown here with Julia Steele, YMCA Director of Development, displaying the handmade quilts they donated to the YMCA.

Over the past several months, the talented and wonderful women of the Sunshine Quilt Guild of Englewood have generously donated more than 70 handmade quilts to our YMCA Preschool Childcare program.  Many of the children who were selected to receive these colorful quilts are from low income or single parent families, and the huge smiles on the faces of the children when they were given their very own quilt said it all!

On Wednesday, November 14, some of the Quilt Guild ladies will be participating in a bus tour of the three YMCA’s three preschool facilities, Center Road, the Island Preschool in Venice, and Jellybean Junction, in the South County Resource Center.  Our YMCA currently cares for more than 250 infants and preschoolers cared daily at our three south county locations.  In the past year, we provided $236,000 in financial assistance to low income families for Preschool Childcare.

If you or your group would like a personally guided tour of any of our YMCA facilities and/or programs in Venice or Englewood, please contact Stephanie Plesz at the YMCA, 492-9622 ext. 139 or email splesz@veniceymca.org

“Our sincere thanks goes out to Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice for the tremendous contributions they have made in the past several years towards both our Venice and Englewood capital campaigns,” said Ken Modzelewski, YMCA President and CEO. “They truly helped make our dream of two new state-of-the-art facilities a reality for everyone in our community.”

Dr. Richard Conroy, Board Chair, and Teri Hansen, President and CEO of Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice were honored by the YMCA Staff and Board of Directors at a dedication ceremony on Thursday, June 20, 2007. At the ceremony, a 20” x 24” commemorative wall plaque, installed on the exterior wall at the front entrance of the new Michael and Georgia Miller Venice YMCA was dedicated to the Foundation to recognize their tremendous generosity and support of our “Building a Strong Future” capital campaign, as well as for the numerous program grants they have awarded to our YMCA over the past decade. The Foundation contributed more than $1.1 million dollars towards the construction of the new Venice YMCA and an additional $750,000 towards the construction of the new Englewood YMCA, completed in July 2005. A similar plaque was also dedicated to the Foundation at the Englewood YMCA.

Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice is the largest community foundation in Florida with assets of $226 million. Founded in late 1995 as a result of the sale of Venice's Bon Secours Hospital, the Foundation has awarded grants of more than $68 million in the areas of arts and culture, health and human services, education, civic affairs, and the environment.
