March 2010 Wellness Program Information
St. Patty’s Day 8K:
Mark your calendars for the annual St. Patty’s Day 8K Race. The race will be held at Sharky’s on the Pier March 20, 2010 at 8am. The race includes a full continental breakfast, great waterway and ocean views, door prizes, loop course, and participant t-shirts. Awards are 6 deep in 5 year age divisions, overall male/female, masters, grand masters, and senior grand masters. $15 before March 1; $20 between March 2-March 18; $25 day of race. To register pick up a flyer at the Y, print one from our website and mail/fax it in, or go online to active.com.Zumba Extravaganza:
Ditch the Workout and Join the Party. Friday, March 5th everyone is welcome to join the 90 minute master Zumba Extravaganza. Tickets are $10. Contact one of the Zumba instructors, Tracy, Wendy, or Christine for tickets and more info.Basic Training:
Basic Training Boot Camp starts March 8th. Cost is $49/members and $69/non-members. Classes are in session for 8 weeks held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at either 5:30am or 5:40pm.Preteen Fitness:
This 4-week class is available for all 11 & 12 year olds. The class teaches proper use of equipment, gym etiquette, and basic fitness concepts. Child must be registered with the front desk to attend. At the end of the class, your child will be certified to use the fitness facility with an adult. Cost is $25. Next session dates are Mondays, March 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd from 7:15-8pm.Free Motion:
New Free Motion session starts the week of March 8th and runs through the end of April. Classes are offered Monday-Friday to fit everyone’s schedule. $10 for an 8 week session. Strengthen and improve balance in a fun class that no other YMCA in the area offers.Wiping Down Equipment:
For the health and safety of yourself and other members please wipe down the equipment after each use but please do not spray the equipment. Please dampen a towel and wipe down the seat and handles.CANCELED- Youth Training Circuit:
Sad but true - We have had to cancel the Youth Training Circuit on Wednesday evenings, effective February 24th. If you are interested in health and fitness options for your 8 - 13 year olds please consider Fencing, Tae Kwon Do, Gymnastics, Swim Team or any of our youth sports programs.The YMCA has many, many incredible fitness options for youth.Fit Checks:
Fit Checks are a new way to evaluate if your workouts are working for you. These are free sessions, done 2 months apart, offered by the Wellness Department. The Fit Check includes a full body composition and an assessment of your cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and balance. Make your exercise routine fun. The more you enjoy what you are doing, the more likely you will be motivated to keep doing it.Nutrition Tip of the Month:
