Healthy Family Membership at the YMCA

The South County Family YMCA is proud to introduce our new Healthy Family Membership. Any family consisting of at least one parent or legal guardian and at least one child in grades k-8 is elligiable. The goal of the new membership is to provide access to our facilities and programming to families who have previously not been YMCA members, with the ultimate goal of promoting healthy, fit lifestlyes.

The monthly rate that families will be charged for the Healthy Family Membership will be deteremined based on annual income per number of people in the household. Rates will range from $25 - $55 per month for the entire family.

In order to take advantage of the new Healthy Family membership, families are required to participate in their choice of one of three family-oriented programs that have been specially designed by our team of exercise physiologist, registered dietitian and nutrition educator. Participants will attend a series of 8 weekly classes that are both educational and hands-on to develop the skills they need to create a healthier lifestyle. If a family misses more than one session in 8 weeks, the Healthy Family membership rate will automatically default to the normal South County Family YMCA family membership rate of $60/month.

The 3 family programs include: (Choose one)

Family Fitness Training Series
Thursdays 6:00-7:00 PM beginning Sept 25th

Incorporating exercise into your lives is important to achieving a healthy lifestyle. If having a healthy family is a priority, then it is necessary to get moving!!! The Fitness Training Series teaches you how to exercise properly, incorporating strength and cardiovascular conditioning with flexibility training for a well-rounded exercise routine. You’ll also learn ways to increase daily activity, helping to get your family off the couch and moving toward healthier lives.

Each week, your family will participate in various training programs. You’ll have fun with your family while improving your overall fitness, achieving a healthier life, and learning new ways to train. Each session challenges your family, while improving physical fitness, developing skills, and fostering confidence and self-esteem.

Family Weight Loss Series
Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00-7:00 PM beginning Sept 23rd

Keeping up with the latest diet and weight loss information can be a full time job. What works? What doesn’t work? What is the best way to lose weight and keep it off? There are so many questions with lots of different answers. Making small and gradual changes over time are the best ways to reach your weight loss goals and create a healthy lifestyle.

“Can my family make these changes? Is this something easy to do? How will they react? What about managing time?” These are all valid questions and the Family Weight Loss Series will help you recognize the steps that need to be made to overcome all of these barriers, as well as ways to include the necessary changes into your daily routine.

An 8-week, two-night per week session (or a 16-week, one night session) including detailed discussion and hands-on activities on both nutrition and physical activity are combined to aid in reaching and maintaining a healthy weight. The weight loss series combines of the Family Nutrition and the Family Fitness Training Series.
