Discover You Weight Loss Program
Losing weight and keeping it off is one of the hardest challenges facing most Americans today. From a health standpoint, however, there is no more worthy goal. Losing unnecessary body fat and increasing lean muscle mass is the single best thing a person can do to improve their health across the board.
Of course losing weight and keeping it off involves a multi-pronged approach. Diet alone is not enough, exercise by itself is not wholly effective and behavior management can only go so far. Discover You is the South County Family YMCA’s Medically-Based Weight Loss Program that puts all of these components together in a 12-week package with the ultimate goal of helping participants realize a lifetime of successful weight control.
There is no standardized exercise regimen, diet plan or supplements to buy. Our highly educated staff designs realistic and do-able exercise and nutrition plans for you based on your own fitness level, preferences and goals.
Program Overview
Before, during and after the 12-week program, participants will:
- receive a physical assessment of fitness, strength and flexibility
- receive a body fat/lean muscle mass analysis
- 3-day metabolic analysis to determine metabolic rate and energy balance
- Total cholesterol and glucose analysis
- Meet 1-2 times per week with their exercise physiologist to design a personal fitness program and check in
- Meet weekly one-on-one with their dietitian to design a personal eating plan and check in
- Meet weekly for group nutrition counseling sessions
- Attend group exercise classes just for Discover You program participants
- Attend mind/body classes
- Meet monthly with a behavior counselor
- Meet monthly for group cooking classes and field trips with dietitian
- Attend monthly lecture series
- Attend weekly support group meetings

Registration Process and Fee
To register for Discover You, meet with the Clinical Programs Exercise Physiologist to begin the process at 492-9622. The 12-week Discover You program begins the day you register. You don't have to wait forfor a starting date.
The fee for the 12-week program is $399.
Some flexible spending plans will reimburse for fitness programs if they are prescribed by a physician.
The Internal Revenue Department offers a deduction for certain fitness programs if they are prescribed by a physician.
